Samsung has unveiled its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 lineup, featuring three models: Standard, Plus, and Ultra. In a surprise announcement during the launch event, Samsung also teased the return of its iconic "S Edge" series with the Galaxy S25 Edge, emphasizing a slim design that harkens back to the unique curved aesthetics of earlier Edge models.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch display, slightly larger than its predecessor’s 6.8-inch screen. With more rounded edges, it departs from the sharp corners of the Galaxy Note series. Despite the bigger screen, the Ultra is lighter at 218 grams while maintaining a 5,000mAh battery, consistent with previous Ultra models.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra introduces significant camera improvements. The 200MP primary sensor is accompanied by a new 50MP ultra-wide camera, replacing the older 12MP version. It also includes a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The front-facing 12MP camera remains unchanged but offers enhanced performance for selfies and video calls.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, a custom-tuned chipset offering enhanced performance and efficiency. It comes with 12GB of RAM across all storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Samsung has discontinued the 16GB RAM variant this year. To improve thermal performance, the Galaxy S25 Ultra includes a vapor chamber that is 40% larger than in previous models.
The Standard Galaxy S25 and S25+ retain Samsung’s focus on premium design and performance. The Galaxy S25 features a 6.2-inch screen, while the S25+ comes with a larger 6.7-inch display, maintaining hardware consistency with earlier generations.
Both models are equipped with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The Galaxy S25 includes a 4,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging support, while the S25+ features a 4,900mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging.
Both devices include 12GB of RAM as standard, with the Galaxy S25 starting at 128GB of storage and the S25+ at 256GB. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the models run Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7. Samsung promises 7 years of OS updates and security patches, ensuring long-term support and usability.
During the launch event, Samsung offered a nostalgic nod to the popular S Edge series by teasing the Galaxy S25 Edge. This model aims to revive the iconic curved display design that defined the Edge lineup, paired with a slimmer profile to align with modern aesthetics. Although details remain sparse, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to feature innovations that make it a standout addition to the series.
Samsung’s One UI 7 introduces next-level AI capabilities, fully integrated with Android 15. These new features aim to make daily tasks more intuitive and efficient.
AI agents now enable seamless execution of multiple commands across apps, accessible through a long-press on the power button. The new “Generative Edit” tool in photo editing offers precision object and shadow removal. Samsung Gallery enhances usability by supporting natural language searches, allowing users to find photos with descriptive queries like “a dog in a red coat near a cake.”
AI Select actively suggests features based on user activity, such as summarizing text or adjusting its tone. Voice commands now enable tasks like activating a blue light filter for eye strain. The Live Video feature provides real-time guidance, such as offering baking instructions while analyzing ongoing actions. On-device translation now supports 20 languages, enriching both calls and in-person interactions.
Samsung’s Personal Data Engine processes user data securely, ensuring privacy remains a core focus across its AI ecosystem.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series builds on its legacy of innovation with advancements in design, performance, and AI integration. From the powerful Ultra model to the nostalgic return of the S25 Edge, the lineup caters to diverse user needs. By incorporating cutting-edge AI features and promising long-term software support, Samsung reinforces its commitment to delivering a premium and future-ready smartphone experience.
