VMPA is proud to present its first workshop ‘ Intro to Kathak ’ by Ahmed Ibn e Sakeena on
Saturday, August 17th, 2024 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm .
This workshop aims to introduce participants to the rich tradition of Kathak, a classical dance form from South Asia. The workshop will be divided into three parts, each designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Kathak, its history, and its basic techniques. The first part will cover the basic movement, the second will provide historical context and a deeper understanding of Kathak dance and the third will be a taught choreographed 30-second dance.
We hope that students will leave this workshop inspired and wanting to come back for more!
Workshop requirements:
Applicants must be 18+
The attire must be a shalwar kameez
Water bottles for hydration.
Notepad and pen for notes during the historical overview
What will you learn:
A brief overview of the history of Kathak
Basic footwork and spins
Hand movements
Facial expressions
A short-choreographed dance piece.
