Dukan is an online marketplace for trade, payments, and loans that connects Pakistan's 5 million small and medium-sized businesses with their providers.
Pakistan is going through a digital change. In the last five years, 50 million new mobile broadband users have joined the country's new economy. 84% of people have smartphones that are connected, and 34% made a digital payment last year. The e-commerce market also grew by 84%. Even so, most transactions between MSMEs and their supplier chains still happen offline and without paperwork. This means that they can't get credit from banks. Also, for digitization to work, MSMEs need to do business with a big part of their ecosystem, which doesn't always have the digital rails that need to be linked.
Dukan built the digital commerce technology stack so that everyone in the MSME community can use it and connect with each other. Dukan has successfully set up seven key interoperable parts in thousands of companies that make, sell, wholesale, retail, and do business online. Some of these parts are Dukan Shops (customised online stores), Dukan Payments (mobile wallet and payment gateway), Dukan Logistics (grouping of third-party delivery companies), Dukan Credit (digital credit based on sales and purchases in the Dukan ecosystem), Dukan Advertising (promotion and targeted ads through a proprietary adtech engine), Dukan Marketplace (a curated B2C and B2B wholesaler marketplace from within the Dukan ecosystem), and Dukan Distribution (supply chain).
Dukan thinks that Pakistan's GDP could grow by 10% thanks to its digital commerce environment.
