We are looking for an experienced Tax and Compliance Expert to manage and oversee tax and regulatory compliance for our IT services organization operating in Pakistan. The role involves ensuring compliance with local tax laws, managing tax filings, and providing strategic tax planning to optimize financial outcomes while ensuring adherence to SECP, FBR, and SBP regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Management:

  1. Prepare, review, and file accurate tax returns, including income tax, withholding tax, and sales tax, in compliance with Pakistan's tax laws.
  2. Manage tax exemptions or rebates under relevant schemes (e.g., IT export incentives by the FBR).
  3. Handle the processing and reconciliation of withholding taxes and ensure timely deposit with the FBR.
  4. Oversee provincial tax compliance (e.g., PRA, SRB, KPKRA).

Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with SECP regulations for corporate filings and disclosures.
  • Monitor compliance with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) guidelines on foreign remittances and export proceeds.
  • Ensure adherence to tax incentives applicable under the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) or other IT-sector initiatives.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate potential tax risks by staying updated on changes in tax laws and regulations.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with FBR rules and prepare for external tax audits.
  • Represent the organization in FBR hearings, tax tribunals, or with provincial tax authorities.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with internal teams and external consultants to address tax and compliance requirements for IT export contracts.
  • Liaise with tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel to address tax planning and compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities to secure tax credits, exemptions, or clarifications.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of tax filings, payment receipts, and compliance reports for audits and inspections.
  • Provide periodic updates to the management on compliance status, tax liabilities, and legislative changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (ACCA, ICMA) is preferred.
  • 3–4 years of experience in tax and compliance, with a focus on the IT or export-oriented sectors in Pakistan.
  • In-depth knowledge of Pakistan’s tax laws, including Income Tax Ordinance, Sales Tax Act, and relevant provincial tax statutes.
  • Familiarity with SECP, SBP, and FBR regulations, especially regarding IT exports.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of tax laws and compliance frameworks in Pakistan.
  • Proficiency in tax software (e.g., IRIS, provincial e-filing systems).
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex tax scenarios.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise with authorities.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing compliance for companies operating under STZA or STPI frameworks.
  • Knowledge of tax treaty benefits under DTAs (Double Taxation Agreements).
